My daughter recently came to me asking why her teacher marked her wrong on a math problem. I explained to her that although she got the correct answer, she did not show her work, so how is the teacher to know that she didn’t just guess? I showed her how I would have written the solution, and she scoffed that it was easy, of course x=2. Why do I have to show so many steps. I explained that when the problems become more complex, showing those steps will help organize the information for her so it will make more sense. I don’t know if she bought off on my explanations, but it reminded me that showing my work remains a constant theme in my life, especially in my photography. How else will my clients and potential clients know that I can continually produce worthy photographs for them if I don’t consistently show current work on my website, on social media and on my marketing materials.
